The New Sacred Heart Academy Pasig Website

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

Sacred Heart Academy Pasig’s Website has a new look and feel. Nice to know they have a new website so they can abandon the very cheap looking Old Officlal Website of Sacred Heart Academy Pasig since this really looked bad. It look so unprofessional and was made by some neice or nephew of a friend of a friend of their next door neighbor.

The New Official Website of Sacred Heart Academy Pasig now has a more professional look and feel. Using the Green and Red (Some what Marronish) colors. They got a more professional domain as well, using the .edu.ph extension. Webmaster design standard freaks would still say it is not good enough since it is not tableless CSS, currently has 32 W3C HTML Validation Errors, has a high code to content ratio, Flash rollover navigation is not spider crawlable, but other than that, the new Sacred Heart Academy Pasig website seems to look way better than how it was before. Kudos to Director Jose Antonio F. Kierulf.

Sacred Heart Academy Pasig Student Starts Singing Career

Singers seem to be getting younger and younger these days. The latest to throw her hat into the ring is 15-year-old Nicole Joy who’s looking to be the music biz’s answer to the likes of Mandy Moore and Jessica Simpson.

Born on Oct. 12, 1988, Nicole Joy is a student at the Sacred Heart Academy in Pasig. She had formal vocal training with the Center for Pop Music Philippines and Yamaha, and also attended classes in Musical Theater under the ABS-CBN Talent Center and Trumpets.

She was discovered by Sunny Ilacad while singing Aegis’ “Pagbabalik” for multiplex tapes. Despite being only 15 years old, Nicole impressed Ilacad with her vocal range, which could well match that of a more mature singer. Next thing Nicole knew, she was recording her debut album which features 10 tracks, including “Maghihintay,” a composition by Nyoy Volante, and the carrier single “Kung Ika’y Mawawala” by Oman Quijano. The album also contains revivals of “Never Knew Love Like This Before” (which features instrumentation by Nyoy and Mannos) and “The Art of Letting Go.”

The next stage of this young singer’s journey will come on Oct. 12, when she stages a birthday concert at Dish (at the ground floor of ABS-CBN’s The Loop), with Nyoy Volante and Christian Bautista as her special guests.

It will be her first time to perform in such a venue. The concert will not only serve as a birthday celebration, but also her professional debut as a singer.

Nicole says she feels challenged to do her best, considering that she will be singing side-by-side with two singers who have already proven themselves. “I’m nervous because I wonder if I can reach their standards,” says the pretty young teener. “But I promise to do my best. Siyempre, ayoko din mapahiya sa kanila at sa mga manonood sa akin.”

That question will be answered on Oct. 12 when she mounts the Dish stage for her birthday concert.

We are more popular than the official Sacred Heart Academy Pasig and Novaliches websites!

Education is in his blood

SHAP (Sacred Heart Academy of Pasig) aims for excellence in its school curriculum. Who would ever have thought Jose “Joey” Antonio Kierulf would turn out to be such an impressive school director? Well, he had it in his blood since his mother was a schoolteacher and she founded the first Sacred Heart Academy in Manila.

Joey managed the school in Retiro while his sister Jojo Kierulf-Zabarte built up her own Sacred Heart Academy in Novaliches (SHAN). Next thing I knew, Joey was showing me around a very handsome new school, the Sacred Heart Academy of Pasig.
Three years ago, Joey had students only up to first year high. Now, he has them up to fourth year. And he has drawn up programs with Mrs. Rose Viillamor that make the school’s curriculum better than ever.

To improve its instruction in reading and math literacy through innovative instructional models, SHAP and Eduquest have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Eduquest will provide technology for reading and math literacy progress assessment, while SHAP shall designate classes, teachers and educational managers for the program.

After evaluating the program, the research group shall recommend the full integration of the program into the school for 2003-2006.

SHAP also joins competitive activities such as the editorial writing competition conducted by the National Capital Region, where several SHAP students copped several awards. The school placed second in the IT Olympiad sponsored by the AMA Ortigas Campus in 2002.

But it is not all work, because the children also compete in chess and basketball games. To sharpen their skills, SHAP teachers attend seminars. To round out the students’ exposure, Principal Lorna Gonzales engages them in outreach activities, with the Student Council spearheading the project.

Sacred Heart Academy-Pasig is now open for registration for prep, grade and high school. Call (+63 2) 641-2369 and 641-2264. For Sacred Heart Academy-Novaliches and La Lorna call (+63 2) 939-1712 or 939-2154 and 741-5371 or 741-5374.

Danish Teachers Do Their Practicum in the Philippines at the SHA Schools

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2006

Taken from Malaya. May 2, 2005
Original URL: http://www.malaya.com.ph/may02/metro2.htm

Once upon a time, two fans of Hans Christian Andersen came

FROM the land of Hans Christian Andersen, two Danish college students chose to have their six-month practicum at the Sacred Heart Academy schools in Retiro, La Loma, Novaliches and Pasig City.

They are 22-year-olds Danes Marie Louise Kathrine Aasborg Martekilde and Marie Isabel Valentin Pedersen, both taking up an interdisciplinary course called Paedagog, which covers social work, child education and psychology.

“We actually had no idea where the Philippines was,” Marie Louise said. ‘We only heard of Vietnam. When we were looking for a school of our choice where we can have our practicum, we wanted something different, where there is no snow and all things we can find in Europe.”

As fate would have it, the guidance counselor they consulted happens to be a distant relative of Josephine Zabarte, the lady honcho of SHA schools. Zabarte belongs to a centuries-old clan called Kierulf, who trace their origin to Denmark. The Kierulfs can now be found all over the world.

The two Danish would-be teachers arrived in March and have visited the three SHA schools. They gave lectures, mingled with the school children, graced important occasions and did lots of what the most famous writer from Denmark had been known for—storytelling.

“What else are we going to read to the Filipino school children but the stories of Hans Christian Andersen, our country’s number one and enduring ambassador of goodwill,” Marie Isabel said.

Lucky were grade-school pupils who had experienced listening to the enduring stories like The Ugly Duckling, The Steadfast Tin Soldier, Little Eda’s Flowers, among others, straight from these ladies who grew up reading, hearing and watching the TV adaptation of Andersen’s tales.

“We believe that in any part of the world, Andersen’s fairy tales are known to connect well with children. They learn lots of moral lessons from which they can develop virtues they will use as they grow older. Andersen’s stories are the perfect ice breaker, especially if we meet people who have no idea where Denmark is or what Danish means,” says Marie Louise.

Conversely, the two observed that SHA students are very much disciplined learners.

“The curriculum in the Philippines is aimed to discipline the child. That is what’s lacking in the Danish educational system. Back there, a child is molded to hone his special talents or skills at an early age. They are encouraged to hone individuality. Sometimes, a child loses respect for teachers and elders because of that kind of training. They tend to become too individualistic, self-centered. We need the kind of discipline that your educational system is using, as what we observed in the Sacred Heart Academy,” Marie Louise said.

They said they noticed how orderly and peaceful the students are inside the classroom. Everyone’s attentive to their teachers. Even outdoors, the students follow instructions well.

Being courteous to elders and being respectful to other people are also among the virtues honed in the SHA schools. First-time visitors like the two Maries are greeted in almost every corner of the campus they go to. Everywhere you go, there will always be a child getting your attention with, “Good morning, Ma’am! Peace be with you!”

Besides character building, over the years, SHA students have consistently shown excellence in the fields of sciences, math, language and sports. Just last year, 17 grade-school pupils in SHA-Novaliches were division finalists in the Metrobank DepEd Math Challenge. In the storytelling interschool competition, Edrick John Berganos (grade 4-B) brought home the gold medal. In the National Taekwondo Interschool Competition, Danielle John Lagman (grade 4-A) brought home two gold medals. In several swimming competitions, Deanne Lu (grade 6-A) won gold, silver and bronze medals.

In the high school level, among the achievers were taekwondo gold medalists Elaine Petonio (4th year-C) and Silver medalist Fe Marie Ann Pera (4th year-G). Dave Catorse (3rd year-A) was elected scout representative to the Quezon City Council executive board during the BP Camp at Balara Filtration Center in Quezon City. Scout Sil-Jan Salazar (3rd year-A) was elected representative to the NCR Scout Youth Forum.

Early this March, seven seniors passed the highly competitive University of the Philippines College Admission Test. They are Camille Joan Cadut (Agriculture), Veronica Puda (Architecture), April Rose Pazcoguin (Business Administration), Maria Zelina Baluyan (Biology), Divina Angela Genuino (Chemical Engineering), Camille Narag (Computer Science) and Ejae Mercado (Conservatory of Music).

The SHA schools were founded by Miss Zabarte’s mother, Luisa Faustino Kierulf after World War II. The pioneer was the SHALL- Retiro, La Loma school, followed by the SHAN-Novaliches and SHAP-Pasig City.

Sacred Heart Academy of Pasig with online Newsletter

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2006

During my days at one of the SHA’s, I Super Turon did not even hear about the Internet. During those days the Internet was still a government network of the US. Our newsletter was not even photocopied, nor risographed. It was mimeographed! Who needed Microsoft Word? Wordstar was just coming out then and before all of that it was still the old typewritter. Using that stencil paper and sometimes drawing stuff on it for illustrations.

The years have passed for Super Turon, and now, Sacred Heart Academy of Pasig is the first so far I have seen to come up with an online newsletter. They call it the Sacré Coeur. Ha? Ano daw? Hindi ba kainan yun na parang may baked products? The site is very ‘amateurish’ but good enough for a highschool newsletter. Freehosted so there is a bunch of banner ads, floating ads. Hey you guys! Web hosting is not that expensive anymore, leave a comment here on how can I have my friends contact you for hosting at a cheap price, affordable by the students.

Your website is may look not that professional, but I still give you credit because I like it more than the official SHAP website. The webmaster C’nSainT seems to be into writing, perhaps you can write for this Sacred Heart Academy blog. That would be cool don’t you think?
Oh, I liked your poll, I liked the results even better. Would you rather cheat or get zero in an exam? The results the last time I checked it: 31% says get zero, and a not surprising record high 69% says CHEAT! Hahaha.

I was looking at your website stats on Bravenet. OMG, so many Internet Explorer users visiting your site. Go with the better browser, Firefox! You can get one here on this site. Well this SHAP newsletter site looks like it also ended after that batch was done with it. So mga batch today, from all Sacre’s, step up and match that.

Don’t we have a better looking website?

Tuesday, February 21st, 2006

I remember a few years back, searching Sacred Heart Academy of La Loma, Pasig or Novaliches, the first result used to be the SHAP website. Now, their site is way below in the search engine results. And while I was looking for SHAP and searched for it, guess what? This website is increasing in ranking! We are currently number 4 on Google for Sacred Heart Academy of Pasig and number 5 on Yahoo for the same term. Number 9 on Yahoo and 8 on Google for Sacred Heart Academy of Novaliches. Number 5 on Google and 2 on Yahoo for Sacred Heart Academy of La Loma.

And the SHAP website still pops in and out of the 1st page results. Click here to view the SHAP website. After all these years during the first time I saw their website. It is still the same cheap-looking, sucky website. What about SHALL and SHAN? When are you going to come up with your websites huh?
